Looking For A Good Read?

Try A Book Club

I belong to a neighborhood book club, and we celebrated our one-year anniversary this month.  Subsequently, during this past year, we have shared a dozen great books and as many fun-filled and thought-provoking evenings. Therefore, we are always searching for the next good read.

Since, being bitten by the love bug of reading for as long as I can remember, I am always hunting for the next good book.  Ultimately, the thrill of getting lost in the archives of new places and other’s lives makes reading good books one of my favorite pastimes. And, oh what fun it is to share the books that I have been found to be a good read!

After joining the book club, I realized that sharing is the best, the bomb!   While discussing and reviewing a shared book, the lightbulb moments start clicking. “I’ve never thought of it that way.” or “Oh, I missed that part.” are typical remarks throughout the evening. Without a doubt, a book club is a fantastic way meet new people with like interests and share the love of reading.

Faithful a good read

October’s reading selection was Faithful, by Alice Hoffman.

Faithful is a compelling novel which takes us on a journey of great tragedy and the losing of oneself in survivor’s remorse.  While she is driving on black ice, a tragic accident happens. Fortunately, Shelby is saved by a stranger and survives. Alas, her best friend Helene is now comatose for life. To this end, Shelby Richmond finds herself lost, isolated and forever changed. Upon our entering into Shelby’s world, we begin to examine the powers of fate, faith, family, and love, then the finding of redemption and love.

Faithful is a novel that explores the heavy burden of grief and guilt. At last, we witness how the faith, hope, and the support of her surrounding angels bring Shelby to the discovery of her calling and a better life.

After an evening of insightful discussion, our club gave Faithful a thumbs up!  Undoubtedly, Faithful is a club-worthy good read.
