Are You Getting Your Daily Stretch?
Ok, I get it! You’re not a yogi and not about to start.
But, stick with me here, and I’m sure you’ll remember a few small everyday hints and feelings that you may have long forgotten.
I’ve got 5 good reasons you need to stretch daily.
Now, remember how you used to love stretching long and hard before rising out of bed. That feeling of mentally awaking and physically coming alive too.
And then it happens to all of us, and we slowly slip into that few more minutes of sleep or the hurry to get up and get on with the daily routine. Then actively stretching is all but forgotten.
In the past, I have suffered from neck and shoulder issues. Fortunately for me, Yoga and extensive stretching have been the answer to my problems. I love the feeling of stretching and lengthening of my body during my yoga practice. Because I know that it not only feels fantastic, but it also realigns my neck and spine. Also, I am a firm believer in regular stretching poses before and after working out or if sitting for extended periods of time.
Why Make It A Point To Stretch Every Day?
1. Improved Flexibility
We all want to be fit and flexible. To be able to move about with agility and a balance. By being flexible, our risk of injury may be reduced. Flexible muscles are less likely to be injured during unexpected twists or turns.
2. Slowing The Degeneration Of Our Joints
We can increase our range of motion in our joints by stretching. Thus by lengthening our muscles through stretching, we eliminate some of the stress on our joints.
3. Decreases Muscle Stiffness – Relieves Post-exercise Aches and Pains
The goal is to keep your muscles loose. Stretching is the answer.
4. Improves Posture
Now, who doesn’t want great posture? Ok, just stretch out and reach for the ceiling with the top of your head.
5. Promotes Better Blood Circulation
The blood supply to your brain, muscles, and joints is increased while stretching. In turn, the circulation of blood and nutrients throughout the entire body is greatly improved.
Of course, we are all human and if we don’t keep up with our practice, the aches and pains will return. And that is why when I started to feel my back creaking as I twisted doing simple tasks last week, I knew it was time to get back to doing my stretches.
What I do know for sure is that good health and wellness is a lifelong pursuit. And so I will continue to do my stretches.
Please remember to always check with your doctor for any physical or health issues before starting any type of exercise program.
