FRONT PORCH COFFEE CHAT on 4/4/2020
Welcome to this week’s Front Porch Coffee Chat!
Many times life just doesn’t go as planned … that’s when we just make the best of the cards that are being played and improvise the rest! The past week has been on for the history books as we all face the worldwide pandemic of Coronavirus and everyone is staying at home and practicing social distancing.
As this week marks the beginning of April 2020, we here in the USA are continuing our social distancing and are staying at home for another 30 days to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. Indeed, this is a real challenge to remain in place at home, but rest assured we will make the best of it as each day unfolds to a slower pace of living.
So go grab your coffee and let’s head to out to the porch for a – Front Porch Coffee Chat. Let’s discuss what’s happening while we are busy staying at home.
Social Distancing & Staying At Home
Well, being social is the cornerstone of our society. We all love it and nothing has mentally prepared us for this abrupt change. But, the good news is we are very adaptable! And we are being social without being physical.
In a way, I am finding myself connecting more to friends and family than before. I am now taking the time to make that call or send that text to check in and make sure everyone is well.
FaceTime, ZOOM, Instagram are all great ways to stay connected. This past week I have been in on a couple of chats with friends and bloggers. We connected on the ZOOM app and it is great! I highly recommend it as a fun way to stay connected. Plus, it is a great growing, learning experience.
Home Delivery
A special thank you to all the delivery people who are out there working to make our lives safer and easier in these days of social distancing and Coronavirus. THANK YOU!
Well, I have always been an online shopper. Now, more so with the stay at home restrictions, I have been taking advantage of home delivery as much as possible.
This week I realized I was running low on my dry eye solution. Normally, I pick up at my eye doctor’s office. I was able to order it online. As we are staying in our yard, my husband busy cleaning up the lawn and leaves. Because it is spring and we are running low on a few needed items, I placed an online order to Sam’s. These items can be quickly delivered to my front porch. Our local grocer is offering delivery. Friends, home delivery, is an efficient way to get those needed items without going out.
What I’m Watching
I am an all-time PBS fan. Always have my recorder set for a Sunday night series. The Woman In White is the series that I am binge watching this week. Personally, I’m not into anything too heavy right now. And so, something from a different era fills the bill of escapism for me perfectly.
Reading Next
Of course, my neighborhood book club will not be meeting in April as we continue to practice our social distancing to stop the spread of the Coronavirus. I am looking forward to and starting to read our selection for the month of May.
It is My (not so) Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella.
The review on Amazon states that this book is “a witty critique of the false judgments we make in our social-media-obsessed world.“
Indeed, I think this is a very timely read. I have decided to listen to it on audio. I’m thinking that I will enjoy it while I am outside walking.
How about you? Are you a book in your hands’ reader? Or do you read on your tablet or listen to the audio? I enjoy all formats. Cause I do love a good read!
Making Healthy Choices
As we are staying at home and preparing most of our meals it is important to try and eat healthily. That is most of the time. Because we all do know that we are going to have some boredom, stress snacking.
There are many websites available to educate us on the importance of eating foods high in nutrients to support our overall health and strengthen our immune systems to fight the Coronavirus.
The following is a list of immune-supporting nutrients is taken from the website Eat Right. Check it out for more information on health matters.
Immune-Supporting Nutrients
The following nutrients play a role in the immune system and can be found in a variety of foods:
- Beta Carotene is found in plant foods, such as sweet potatoes, spinach, carrots, mango, broccoli, and tomatoes.
- Vitamin C-rich foods include citrus fruits, berries, melons, tomatoes, bell peppers, and broccoli.
- Vitamin D is found in fatty fish and eggs. Milk and 100% juices that are fortified with vitamin D also are sources of this important nutrient.
- Zinc tends to be better absorbed from animal sources such as beef and seafood, but also is in vegetarian sources such as wheat germ, beans, nuts, and tofu.
- Probiotics are “good” bacteria that promote health. They can be found in cultured dairy products such as yogurt and in fermented foods such as kimchi.
- Protein comes from both animal and plant-based sources, such as milk, yogurt, eggs, beef, chicken, seafood, nuts, seeds, beans, and lentils.
Machine Washable Shoes
Lastly, let me share with you these amazing shoes that I was gifted from Bzees! They are so unbelievably comfortable and guess what else?
They are” MACHINE WASHABLE”! How perfect is that!
With the arrival of the coronavirus, we are all thinking about and working at being germ-free and washing our hands, isn’t it GREAT that we can wash your shoes too!
Bzees’ shoes come in a variety of stylish styles and colors. And, let me tell you they are so comfortable. They feel like you are walking on a cloud!
My style is SMILE in the color Cream.
A special thanks to Bzees for allowing me the opportunity to try these, washable sandals! Be sure to check out the Bzees website for the complete selection of their comfy shoes!

Thanks for the tips. Normally I am a healthy eater but the last three weeks have been challenging. Instead of healthy, I reached for comfort food. Hmm., maybe I can mix the home delivery with healthy food!
Thank you for the encouragement.
Hi Nancy,
The more I eat the more I crave the sugar and salt. And then, I’m really for some humus and carrots! 🥕 Sorta feels like the holiday binge foods.
Have a wonderful day! Stay healthy!

Really loved this light, informative post. I am a Canadian funeral director, so my life is definitely stressful at work. When I come home, this is exactly the kind of escape I’m looking for. Loved your Bzees!!!

Those machine washable shoes are fabulous! I hope we can all stay home and make the best of it. I enjoy being home but hate not getting to see my mom. She’s all alone and so used to being very busy with the family. Oh well, this too shall pass! Take care Rosemary!

Hi Kellyann,
Staying home is hard and it is easy too.
I miss being out with people. The personal interactions. The coffee dates and just idea that I can go wherever I want without thinking about it.
The staying home is getting too easy to be by myself and get lost in media etc.
But this is going to pass soon.🙏🏻

Hello Rosemary,
What a lovely post. I wish I could sit on your front porch with you, have a glass of lemonade and talk in person. I’ll have to check out the book now because it sounds like what we write about doesn’t it? I wish for you a very blessed Easter and that your family is healthy and safe.
My Best,
Nancy
Oh Nancy, how I wish we could sit on the porch and enjoy a cool drink.
I know we would be the best of friends if we were living in the same town!( We are friends, now but you know what i mean). 😉
Have a Happy, Healthy Easter!🙏🏻🌷🐰🌸

I don’t’ know how we’d get through this without the technology we have today! I’ve been connecting with friends on FaceTime too! Your wedges are so cute! Love that they are machine washable!

Those shoes are fabulous and even better that they are machine washable! I love that idea. I am a book holder type so no audiobooks for me. I feel like I pay attention more if I read than when I am listening on tape, etc. I have always been an online shopper. We don’t live to too many shops or stores that I fancy so I order online! 🙂 I hope you are having a great day so far and happy Wednesday!

Hi Maureen,
I am like you when it comes to online shopping. I do a lot and have started doing more lately.
I love an audio book if it is a novel. But for things I want to remember, Its a physical book for me. I like to read and highlight.
