As winter rolls around in Florida so does the Citrus Fruit Season. And nothing beats the taste of fresh oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. Especially, when you can pick them from your own trees! But, there are also lots of fruit stands offering all our favorite Florida citrus fruits.
Fun Facts
Did you know that the first citrus fruits came along to the new world with Christoper Columbus back in 1493?
- It is believed that the first orange trees were planted in the area around St. Augustine, Florida in the mid-1500s.
- Starting in the mid-1800s citrus groves have been farmed commercially.
- Today citrus fruits are farmed commercially as a $9 billion local industry.
- The citrus industry is a major employer of over 76,000 Floridians.
Florida’s unique sandy soil and subtropical climate proved to be ideal for growing these sweet and delicious tropical fruits.

Love Grapefruits
Indeed it is fun to plant your own citrus trees and pick your favorite fruits. We had a lemon, a lime, and an orange tree in our yard when I live in Orlando. Today, my daughter-in-law has a grove of Florida citrus trees from which we delight in harvesting. She has lemons, oranges, and grapefruits.
Now, if you are looking for a day out and a fun adventure, there are many commercial Florida citrus groves that you can visit. There are tours of the citrus plants, lots of souvenirs, and you can even pick some oranges if you like.

I love fresh sqeezed juice! I used to have a orange tree in my yard and I would go out pick a couple of oranges in the morning for juice. That was at a house I lived in years ago though. Our new HOA doesn’t allow citrus trees. Lovely pictures today! Have a great week!
Peace!

It is so great to have fruit trees in the yard. My husband loves picking a bag of oranges and juicing a pitcher of fresh juice on Sunday mornings.
