There is no doubting the fact that 2020 has been a challenging year for the entire world. It has been nothing less than chaotic and stressful. But let’s not forget the fun times and good memories. As they say, the good and bad go together hand in hand. So now, let’s turn our thoughts to an optimistic closing of 2020 and a clean, fresh start in 2021. Here are seven ways to reset your life in 2021.
Step 1: Set Your Intentions
Dream Big
I am a firm believer in the power of intention. Dr. Wayne Dyer used to say. “When you believe it, you will see it!” As for myself, during the final days of December, I have the practice of making a list of my intentions for the coming year. It is fun, and an inspiring dream will make a must-do list.
This is happening when I am switching my planner to the next year. The real fun is while making my list, I review my lists from previous years. Wow! the things and dreams that I intended that have happened are amazing. It may not be in the year that I made the intention but in good time! You can read past posts on my new year intentions here.
Now, as you are doing a reset for 2021 start thinking about and making a list of those people, places and things that you plan to see and do in the coming year.
Step 2: Reset Your Health
Let’s pay attention to our overall health! Having optimum health is a great goal. The pandemic has made us all aware of the importance of a healthy immune system.
But, with all the social distancing, I have been guilty of letting non-essential appointments slide. Indeed it has been a slow-fast year. So, now is the time to reset the calendar and make those appointments that keep getting pushed back and take good care of ourselves.
*Dentist – Get a cleaning and a checkup
*Dermatologist – Schedule an annual checkup
*Gynocologist – Annual Mammogram, checkup, and bone density
*Ophthalmologist – Eye exam
I am sure that you may have a list of missed appointments too. Now is the time to reset the calendar of appointments to start fresh.
Step 3: Diet
Once again, we are discussing a healthy diet. At this point in time most of us know a healthy diet consists for fresh fruits, vegetables, clean proteins, and lots of water. Staying away and limiting our sugar intake is also high on the list of good nutrion. These are all key elements to having a healthy immune system and staying healthy and vibrant.
I know we have all been off the wagon this past year, but now we are ready to reset our habits begin anew. A fresh start with new goals for a healthy lifestyle.
Step 4: Exercise To Reset The Body
The new year is calling us all to think and then do some form of exercise. We have had a long season of waiting and being couch potatoes. As we reset our minds we need to also begin to move. Each at our own pace, but move we must.
As we age, our bodies begin to lose muscle mass and flexibility. And daily exercise will help us slow the clock. We need a variety of exercise to be well rounded in a routine.
*Strength Training – Weights
*Flexibility Training – Yoga, Balance Practice, Pilates
*Cardio – Walking, Biking, Swimming
The Mayo Clinic states, “Exercise and various physical activities are great ways to feel better, boost your health, and have fun.”
***Be sure to check with your doctor before starting an exercise program.
Step 5: Sleep
Being well-rested and energized is important to good health and enjoying life to its fullest. A good 7 to 8 hours are optimal.
It is documented ( web MD) that sleep is beneficial to:
*Sharper Brain – Improved Mental Health
*Healthy Heart
*Better Mood
One good suggestion is to shutoff all electronics one half hour before sleep.
Step 6: Keep Learning
As we are resetting our lives in 2021, it is perfect to decide how we want to grow our lives and brains. This can all happen while we are learning and embracing something new each day!
Go ahead, start and a new hobby, read a book, learn a new internet skill. It’s all good for you!
Step 7: Totally Unplug
Last but not least, take the time to unplug from the outside world. Give yourself the gift of time with you.
*Detach: Let go of need and just be.
*Pray: Practice and pray for guidance from your religious source.
*Meditate: Be quiet and listen to your inner voice.
It doesn’t matter how or what you choose to do – do it – you will be so glad you did! This quiet time will connect you back to your source, and you will fill your life, beginning to reset for 2021.
I wish you the best of luck in the new year as we begin with making the intention to reset our lives in 2021 and may the days of the pandemic be left behind us in 2020.
