Cozy Southern Touches to Refresh Your Home in February

By February, our homes deserve a little love. It’s not quite spring, but it’s the perfect time for small updates that make everyday spaces feel warmer and more inviting. I love this in-between season — it’s all about cozy touches without a full reset

Why February Is Perfect for a Soft Refresh

February is the perfect time for a home refresh because it rests in that quiet, in-between season. The sparkle of the holidays is a memory, and the busyness of spring is yet to come. The slower pace makes it easier to notice what your home really needs, whether that’s a fresh coat of paint, lighter fabrics, or simply decluttering and rearranging a few favorite pieces.

With cooler mornings and sunny afternoons here in Florida, it feels natural to open the windows, let in the light, and create a space that feels calm, comfortable, and welcoming.

A small update, such as fresh pillows or bedding. A bit of greenery or updated lighting can breathe new life into your rooms and set the tone for the months ahead.

February is less about big projects and more about thoughtful touches that make your home feel refreshed, personal, and beautifully you.

Latest Update To Our Coastal Cottage

This quiet, in-between season feels like the perfect excuse to treat our Coast Cottage to something special. The Chamberlin Chandelier for the living room. I’ve had my eye on this beauty for over two years now, and every time I check, the price seems to inch up a bit.

Rick and I both love soft, cozy lighting in the evenings, and this dimmer switch creates the warmest glow.

Next on the list is a new rug… but that will have to wait until Spritz is a bit older. He’s officially house-trained (thank goodness!), though he still thinks the throw rug makes the perfect chew toy. Puppy life keeps things interesting around here!

Season of Soft Lighting

Another space that’s been capturing my attention lately is my office–dressing room. Now that we’re empty nesters, we really only need one guest room, which opened the door to finally converting the third bedroom into a space just for me. It’s part office, part closet, part dressing room. It’s slowly becoming my own little retreat in the house.

Of course, shopping the sales is my favorite sport, so I tend to watch, wait, and pounce when the timing is right. I was lucky enough to score the Soho light fixture and a couple of beautiful closet pieces from Ballard Designs, and they’re already helping the room feel polished, organized, and perfectly “me.”

Let’s not forget that February is a great time to shop for sales before the new spring merchandise arrives.

New Life For Older Items

What’s old truly feels new again these days, and I’ve been having so much fun reimagining pieces I already own and finding fresh ways to use them around the house. A quick trip to the attic, basement, or even a storage closet can uncover the sweetest little treasures just waiting for a second life.

Recently, my son and daughter-in-law passed along a couple of paintings they’d had tucked away from their previous home. This coastal print features the prettiest color. So perfect for brightening our spaces. But the frame felt heavy and a bit too dark for our light, airy style. A quick stop at our local framing shop solved that, and now they feel right at home, beautifully updated and just right for our relaxed, coastal Southern vibe.

Southern Living Spaces

February in Florida is such a sweet spot for tackling a few outdoor projects. Before the summer heat and humidity settle in, the days are cooler, comfortable, and perfect for being outside. Y’all know how intense it gets once summer arrives, so we like to make the most of this little window of time.

I’m especially lucky that my hubby is quite the DIY guy, and his latest project is adding landscape lighting around the yard. It may still be a bit too cool for swimming, but the soft evening glow creates the coziest atmosphere. It’sjust right for sipping hot chocolate or enjoying a glass of wine out on the lanai.

Keeping It Simple

February is a gentle reminder that comfort doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s the simplest, most thoughtful changes that make the biggest difference, such as a fresh layer here, a cozy touch there.

We are creating a home that feels warm, refreshed, and wonderfully welcoming.

Please share how you refresh your home in late winter. I would love to hear from you. Let’s start a conversation.

  1. Everything in your home looks so refreshing probably even before your redo’s for February. Such a lovely home. Yes, the new frame on the painting, I like too. Great idea for February and makes sense before the busyness of Spring begins. Thanks for visiting me, and have a happy week.

  2. WSe’r win our second winter in middle England, I’ve tried freshening the house up but it’s just so dark and wet outside it doesn’t feel right. Watch out you don’t get too attached to that third room, it won’t be long before it’s taken over by a grandchild or two. It was with us. Thanks for joining in with #pocolo
