“Mirrors Aren’t Just For Reflection.”

“There’s nothing quite like the glow of Florida sunshine streaming into our homes. And one of my favorite ways to make the most of that natural light is with mirrors. They not only brighten a room but also add that little touch of Southern elegance we all love. Come along and see how mirrors can add warmth and charm to your home, too! I’ve linked a few of my favorite styles below if you’re looking to bring this look into your own space.”

Mirrors Are More Than Just Practical
Throughout history, mirrors have served us beyond their practical use. They have often been used to symbolize elegance, refinement, and status. During ancient times, the polished bronze and silver mirrors were treasured possessions of the wealthy. They were valued as much for their artistry as for their function of reflection.

The Renaissance brought elaborately framed Venetian glass mirrors. They adorned palaces, as displayed in reflecting the grandeur of courtly life. Their shimmering surfaces not only expanded light in dim interiors but also reflected an owner’s sophistication and taste. Over the centuries, mirrors came to embody beauty, self-awareness, and the art of display—transforming into timeless symbols of elegance that continue to grace homes and inspire design today.
Creative Ways to Use Mirrors in Your Home
Entryways & Hallways

A mirror can make any entry feel warm and inviting from the moment you step through the door. It naturally bounces light around the space, brightening up a narrow or dim entryway. Plus, it adds the convenience of a quick hair and makeup check-up upon arrival or departure. Your guest love this feature!
Living Rooms
A well-placed mirror adds depth and a sense of spaciousness to a beautifully styled living room.

This carved wood mirror is one of my favorites. It was purchased over 20 years ago at Burdines department store in Orlando. It has traveled from home to home with us. I know that wherever I go, I will find a home for it.

The Wilshire mirror in my South Florida home is currently out of stock at Ballard Designs. But there is an interesting Wilshire bar mirror for someone who has the right space.
Dining Rooms
Strategically positioning a mirror allows it to capture the candlelight and the chandelier’s glow. Thus creating an atmosphere of refined warmth.

My unique dining room mirror was repurposed from an older Tommy Bahama bedroom suite. If you look closely, you can see a mirror in a mirror from across the hall.
Bedrooms

Traditionally placed over dressers or nightstands, mirrors add not only functionality but also style to the bedroom.

A full-length mirror brings both decor and function to the bedroom. This functional, gorgeous mirror doubles as a jewelry cabinet.
Nooks and Crannies
Adding a mirror can beautifully enhance hard-to-decorate or unexpected areas in your home.

This floor mirror is my latest find at my local Home Goods. It is currently filling space in this unique little corner of the hallway. It will eventually find a permanent home in my office-dressing room.

This pair of matching mirrors brightens the staircase landing, adding both balance and light. Again, mine were purchased at a furniture store in Ocala, Florida, more than 10 years ago. But you can find this style today. Similar ones are offered here.

I love mirrors, too! I have several all over the house. I really like them in the entry way, too. I want to replace the full length one in my bathroom because it’s just clunky and doesn’t really work in there.

Marsha,
It’s the Realtor in me that knows how wonderfully a mirror can open up a space. But I loved the addition of mirrors from my first home.
I always look for a mirror whenever I decorate a room, they add something special. Thanks for linking at #TuesdayTwirl
Yes, Gail, pictures are beautiful. But a framed mirror adds a wonderful reflection of the room.
Very decorative. I love to have enough mirrors in my home.
Nancy,
I feel that a mirror in every room reflects the beauty of the room without distracting from the art and paintings.
I love mirrors, they make a space seem larger.
Here is a post on a mirror I made…
