The carefree Espadrilles are one of my favorite styles of shoes this season! And it is no surprise because these shoes are so versatile and yet stylish in their classic design. They are easy to wear. Just slip them on and go! Yet they are sophisticated in their look as wedges or with a stylish ankle strap. Or this unique shoe can be fun and carefree with a quirky beach vibe! Is it any wonder that espadrilles are ideal summer shoes?

When wearing espadrilles, you are not just slipping into your old-comfy sneakers for walking. But you are stepping forward in comfort and ease with added flair and style! Just another reason that espadrilles are perfect summer shoes!

A Brief History Of The Espadrille

Espadrilles are casual canvas shoes with a rope sole. These popular shoes originate in the Occitania region of France, Catalonia, and Spain. So, it is easy to understand how they get their Mediterranean flare! The soles of the shoes are made from tough, wiry grass from the region called esparto. Most commonly, this grass is used in the making of rope.

Ultimately, the espadrille shoe has been in existence as peasant footwear since around the 14th century. At the time it was also worn by the foot soldiers of the day.

During the 20th century, the shoe became popular. Now, Lauren Bacall can be seen wearing espadrilles in the movie Key Largo in the 1940s. And Don Johnson sports the male version of the shoe in Miami Vice in the 1980s. Today the shoe is loved by us here in 2021.
