Hello August! Where has the summer gone? The ladies from our Ageless Style group suggested we discuss how we style “Fashion on a Budget” as our August collaboration. As inflation continues rise it is interesting to see how each of the ladies approach being fashionable in their unique ways. So what could be more enlightening than watching the Ageless Style group of friends and seeing their creative ways of enjoying Fashion on a Budget!
Five Things To Consider When Shopping Fashion On A Budget
Shop with intention
Number one is to set your intention for your shopping experiences, especially when shopping fashion on a budget! Then the next steps are easy to follow. The first steps are fun and simple simple. Plus they only take a few quite mintues of your time to follow the step guide. For instance on your next shopping outing take a look around at the fall displays. Beware of the current trends showing up on the managins and displays. And don’t forget to take a peek at the emails from your favorite stores and bloggers.
❓Are you liking what you are seeing this season?
❓What is your budget? It’s all about your personal finance goals.
Know Your Style
In order to answer the last question, ”Are you liking what you are seeing this season?” Ask yourself, ”Is it my style?” I have written several posts on Owning Your Personal Style that you may enjoy rereading. Interestedly, I have found myself to be a combination of styles. Mainly, classic, casual, with lots of jeans and because I live in Florida, I enjoy boho -chic too.
❓Do the current trends fit my style?
Fall Schedule
Now, this is all important! Take a look at your upcoming fall schedule and you will have a clear
picture of your real life fashion needs. Because, we all love day dreaming of the life we wish we
were living, but our goal is to life our best lives each and every day. And we certainly want to enjoy our fashion on a budget. So, if that finds us at the grocery, in the gym, or watching football on TV, then we need to be checking if our casual items need a refresh! Or maybe your work outfits are in need a bit of updating or we need a new dress. It’s time to take a look into our closets full of items and decide which choices we want to make. It’s our lives and our schedules and what fun it is!
❓What’s on my schedule?
Plan for future events
After planning your current schedule, take a moment to consider special events on your social
calendar. Do you have some special occasions in fall season? Maybe a wedding or a fall get-away
to a different climate? Now is a great time to be shopping without any pressure. And a great way to take advantage of the sales between now and then! Plus your personal finances with thank you!
Tip:
Ladies if you are planning a mid-winter trip to a warmer climate, now is the time to be
shopping the summer sales! You will be glad when you have that fresh white tee shirt, comfy
dress in your closet just waiting for you in a couple of months.
Cost Per Wear
It’s the Budget Ladies!
And last tip takes us back to the first, for me it is all about cost-wear! As i have matured and
studied my lifestyle and fashion choices, my ultimate question is, “what is my cost-per wear? ” Yes, by actually stopping to calculate the price of an item and how many times I will wear and enjoy it, I find a higher quality item is more affordable and budget friendly than the cheaper.
Now, I am not saying we should be buying the most expensive item,s available. What I expressing
is that purchasing the best quality you can afford and less items will serve you better in the long
run.
When fashion shopping for the fall and an item catches my eye, I ask my
self these questions.
- Is it my style?
- Will I wear it at least three seasons?
- Does it work with pieces in my current wardrobe?
- Is it on Sale?
- Am I saving money?
- Do l have a discount code or affiliate link?
- What will be my cost-wear?
- Is it worth it to me?
Remember it is better to have one quality item that you feel good wearing time after time than three lower quality items that are worn, faded, or stretched out after a few wearings and in need of replacement.
My Shopping Plans For Fall
In conclusion , my Fashion on a Budget shopping plans are simply to concentrate on accessories to update my current wardrobe. My husband gifted me a couple belts last Christmas and I am enjoying them so much that I want to invest in a couple more neutral fall shades. And my black booties are in need of replacement. Plus, I am looking a pair white one and wanting them since last year. So you will definitely find me watching the sales. What’s on your radar? Maybe a trench coat from Old Navy?

The suggestion of looking at your fall calendar to see what you need is so good. Never thought of that. And the price per wear reminder is good. I plan to invest in good quality for my capsule wardrobe pieces because I will wear them a lot!
I think that once we begin to think about a capsule wardrobe and price per wear, we are on track to being happy with our closets. And we must always have fun and add something frivolous once in awhile.🥰

I used to keep a chart for cost per wear but didn’t keep up with it enough. I do make sure to wear what I buy right away and then try to rotate in things I don’t wear as often. I have gotten much better at buying the right things that I will enjoy and wear repeatedly.

I hear you, Mireille. Once, I became aware of how often items were on repeat, I became buying similar styles and higher quality. It’s always a work in progress.

Great ideas Rosemary. I do think about if I really love something before I buy it because then I know I will wear it a lot.

Loving the things around me is important to me. And I have finally realized that the clothes that I am wearing needs to be as important has my home furnishings etc.
Rosemary
Oh I had to laugh at that tip about planning for the life we lead and not the one we dream of living.. I am so bad about buying fancier clothes and dresses for “just in case events” that never happen! I don’t know if I think I’m vacationing in a movie or what but I never wear those long flowy dresses I buy for our beach vacations. LOL I’d look so out of place with all my guys in flip flops and cargo shorts.
I so totally hear you Joanne! For so many years I was influenced by dreams and magazines. But, now I want occasion appropriate items in my wardrobe.
Rosemary
I think we fashion lovers are all guilty of dreaming outfits and buying them.
My closet also has those “just in case outfits” and when the time arrives the cut and fit is just a bit off.🤣
Rosemary
I love your suggestion to check out schedules and see what we’re really planning to do this fall! I’m also investing in accessories right now – my most recent purchase was a new pair of sunnies – I think sunglasses can elevate the most basic outfit and have really good cost-per-wear potential! xo Nipa
Living in sunny Florida, Sunnies are a must investment for me! My eyes are sensitive to the bright lights and I wear them constantly. I have looking for an updated pair too.

These are such great tips. We can save so much planning by accessing what we already have and what are needs are before we go shopping.
Once I began thinking this way and organizing my things, I find myself incorporating these ideas into all my shopping purchases.

Great tips!
I already keep a very tight rein on my purchases – I’m well aware that I have plenty of clothes. The real key is to use them!
Cat,
I am so in agreement with you! I want to have only things that I love and wear.
