How I Like To Wear Tie-Dye

I am trying to decide what to blog about today and came upon this photo which was taken last month. Here, I am wearing a tie-dye top and camisole which I love. Why a tie-dye top? Because it’s a fun and happy print that allows me to step out of my fashion box.

Wearing Tie-Dye At Any Age

Now you may be wondering if we can wear tie-dyed fashions as women over 50? Absolutely! This isn’t about reliving our youth but being able to wear the latest trend as an over 50 woman.

Occassionaly, we all want to step outside of the fashion box and add a unique look to our wardrobe. For me a toned down version of a tie-dye print is often a good solution. It takes me outside my normal choices. And keeps me on-trend and stylish. It’s all about choices.

In the photo I am wearing my Bella Dahl button-up blouse as a jacket over the camisole for a casual-dressy dinner out with friends.

Sometimes, I prefer a more casual look for my tie-dye choices such as shown in past posts. Tie-dye is so perfect for a tropical vacation or home staycation. It always looks so good!

WHAT IS TIE-DYE?

Let’s think about the name tie-dye. Well, it’s a form of dyeing fabric by tieing it in various places and dyeing it – “resist-dyeing.” Bascially, resist-dyeing is accomplished by bunching, crumpling, or twisting the fabric. Once the fabric is crumpled, it is then secured with rubber bands or tied with strings. Then the fabric is submerged into the dye.

By using the tieing techineque, it allows portions of the fabric to be unexposed to the dye. Thus, creating a fabric with swirling patterns and shades of color.

Looking back to the fashion trends of the 1960s and 1970s, tie-dye fashions quickly became an inexpensive way for artists and hippies to customize their outfits with a totally unique flair!

According to Wikipedia, the history of tie-dyeing orginated in anchient times with the earliest examples of tie-dye in the Far East are from Sui dynasty (5th century AD) China. And pre-Columbian tie-dye in Peru date from 500 t0 810 AD.

Indeed it its true, “What’s old is new again!”
