How To Make Every Day Count – Simply Sunday

As I slow down in mid-summer, I read more books, listen to more podcasts, and slowly sink into contemplation. Lately, I’ve been thinking; you know, those thoughts of the changing times. Things seem to be happening more quickly, and time is speeding by faster than ever. Sometimes the world seems so out of control. A lot of time is spent just waiting, and that’s when thoughts turn to want—wanting and wishing for times gone by and days to come. So the lesson that keeps rising is to make every day count!

Living on purpose

” Light tomorrow with today.” ~Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Now let’s think about this for a moment. Making every day count is the sum of every second, minute, and hour added together to make our day. Making it count means it wasn’t wasted. The day was meaningful to us. I understand that the idea of a good, productive day will mean different things for everyone. And what makes ones day good will vary form person to person.

Because we are all unique individuals with our own values and ideas about life, our definition of a good and purposeful day is going to be vary in many different ways.

But, a few simple things bond us in our daily routines, make every day a bit better, and count for a bit more enjoyment in our lives. They are simple to use tips than can make a huge difference in our days.

It’s The Little Things

Gratitude

I know we hear it repeatedly, but the simple truth is it is true! Gratitude is a major key to a good day. When we take a few minutes to stop, count our blessings and add up the good things in our lives, we cannot help but be on the path to improving our day.

Make A Plan

That’s right! Make a plan at the start of your day, and you will have a clear picture of your goals, purpose, and intention for the day. Somedays, things will go according to plan, and somedays they won’t, and that’s okay. Be grateful for all you have accomplished today! Remember, a plan is an excellent way to keep our focus on the important things.

Practice Self Care

Always make it a practice to do something good for the body and the mind every day. By exercising, eating good-nourishing foods, and getting healthy amounts of sleep, we are ensuring the ability to make every day count in the future. Making time for yourself is not selfish. It is essential to being well for people of all ages.

Be Social

Now, you don’t need me to tell you the best days are days when we spend time with friends and family. Research shows the benefits of a good social life. But, more importantly, our memories tell us that these are the days that count. One thing for sure is that we will never regret spending time with those we love.

  1. Hi Rosemary!
I certainly believe this too! Time has gone by so quickly, I try to be present and acknowledge the litte things during the day, as well as have a plan. We often go to our “hangout”, the Cottage where we can socialize with all the “regulars” and enjoy a glass of wine and scenery by the lake.
    Have a great week!

  2. Hi Rosemary, I was just talking with some friends about how fast the summer has gone and what we want to make sure we do before it’s over! For me it’s a balance of being busy while still having my quiet, down time. Definitely making the days count! Thanks for sharing-such a great reminder. xo, Michele

    • Carol,

We do think alike in so many ways. I totally agree that “gratitude” is at the top of the list. I focus on living mindfully and those are the times that flow the best.

  5. Oh Rosemary, Thos couldn’t be more true. One of my favorite quotes is that we all need a little rain in our life to slow us down. You touched on all the important ways to slow life down.

    • Nancy,

I am so happy this post spoke to you. I love your rain quote and know that I will be thinking of you the next time it is raining.
