The Fall Orchid Show at
Kanapaha Botanical Gardens
Mid-October and it’s time to visit the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens for Gainesville’s Orchid Society‘s show and plant sale. This event is always a treat!
The gardens offer a peaceful retreat from the outside world. Winding paths traverse throughout the gardens which cover approximately 62 acres. The garden can boast that it is the Southeast and Florida’s largest display of bamboos.
Each garden along the pathway offers different delights. The Butterfly Garden, the Children’s Garden, the Bulb Garden, the Hummingbird Garden and I am only naming a few. A total of twenty five major collections make up the Botanical Gardens. It takes an afternoon or many visits to fully embrace all that the garden has to offer.
The show of orchids is amazing. Vendors from throughout the surrounding area fill their stalls with gorgeous orchids and other plants.
These giant lily pads are a sight to behold.
The quiet shaded paths wind around and around.
It’s easy to get turned around without a map. I’m taking a break under the shade of a banana tree.
The sale offers not only plants but also a large variety of decorative garden items.
We also love our Roses here in the South. Although our winter temps may drop here in North Florida we are still warm enough for the bursts of color provided by our roses.
My favorite spot in the gardens, the Labyrinth.
