Carb cycling and intermittent fasting is one way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. So I decided to take a look at what carb cycling is all about.
The First Step
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
Laozi
Tao Te Ching
This ancient wisdom teaches that even the longest and most difficult ventures have a starting point.
Every accomplishment only begins with one first step.
Step 1:
Making the decision
At the beginning of this year, while I was making out my list of intentions, another birthday rolled around in January. Was it any wonder that getting into the best physical shape possible was at the top of my list? Plus this is a year planned for travel and lots of exciting adventures.
As the new year began, I watched several friends and relatives making true lifestyle changes by carb cycling and intermittent fasting combined with exercise. They were working with Amanda Nighbert, Registered Dietitian | Creator of the Bariatric Back on Track program | Certified FWTFL Coach.
I decided to join the program.
Step 2:
The Plan For Carb Cycling
Nutrition + Exercise = Fitness
On March 6th I signed up with Amanda Nighbert for the Faster Way To Fat Loss program. And now with Amanda’s guidance, I am in the fifth week of my seven weeks start on my fitness journey.
Since starting my fitness journey, I have been eating lean and healthy all the while learning how to fuel my body correctly. Amanda provides daily educational posts and recipes. I am also accountable to her every day. She wants to see what I’ve been doing and my nutrition for the day.
Now let me say that I always thought that I was eating at least 85% healthy. In fact, I do have a family history of diabetes and heart disease which makes me so aware of the need to practice a healthy lifestyle.
Fortunately, I am blessed with thin arms and legs, but menopause gifted me with a Buddha’s belly. Now the program has taught me why it has been so hard for me to lose the belly fat and keep my triglycerides in check.
Guess what? I’m a carb addict!
It’s all about nutrition, not just calories folks. Who we are and how we feel is directly connected to what we’re eating. And I have always preferred fruits, vegetables, and CARBOHYDRATES to protein and fat. Believe me; I am learning a lot about nutrition.
Carb cycling and intermittent fasting is the formula for the nutritional side of Faster Way to Fat Loss.
Exercise
A combination of HIIT, weights, and cardio now make up my fitness routine.
Each week Amanda provides the schedule for my daily workouts which can be done at home or in the gym.
The program is all about progress, not perfection. Since the program is flexible, it can be tailored to each and everyone’s specific needs. Because let’s be honest no two weeks, or two people are the same.
Again, it’s progress, not perfection.
Where am I now?
After one short month on the program, I see results from eating healthier foods, carb cycling, and intermittent fasting.
My mid-section is getting smaller, and my acid reflux has disappeared. Surprisingly, my craving for sweets has subsided too!
All right you guessed it! I’m hooked on Amanda’s program, which is why I’m sharing it with you.
If you are interested, you too can also change your lifestyle. Because it’s a lifestyle change, not a diet.
Now I know you are curious as to how much weight I have lost. Guess what? I won’t know until the end of my session in two weeks because we don’t use scales!
Step 3
Stay committed!
The next session of Faster Way to Fat Loss begins April 2nd, and I’ve signed up already! I’ll be right back on the program no excuse of “Spring Break did me in.”
Finally, I want to emphasize that I had my routine annual physical exam with my family physician in January before starting the program. Accordingly, you too should always check with your doctor before beginning any new life-changing program.
At last, it’s time for me to go back to step one. Put on those shoes, take that first step and do my cardio workout.

I have never tried carb cycling but do low carb and IF. I need to get back into exercise mode though. Good luck on your journey.
Hi Victoria,
I need to up my exercise and add weights. It’s baby steps…most of my focus has been on the diet and controlling my carb intake.
Make it a great day!
