My Reading Corner

Now, when I am reading, I have a couple of favorite spots in my home. And the are both located in a corner. Thus, I am calling this series the “Reading Corner.” From here I will share my hot picks in my personal reading corner!

A few years ago I made the intention to read 15 books a year. Then about 3 years ago, a monthly book club was formed in my neighborhood. It was just what I needed to keep me motivated to keep reading when other things were keeping me busy.

I look forward to meeting with the ladies and discussing the books. Plus, the club has been a huge incentive for me to keep reading. And so as I am finishing up with our February book, I am thinking that maybe you all might enjoy hearing about our latest picks. Plus, other books that I am reading or have been referred to me.

Good Reads

In my February book club, we read The Island Of Sea Women. It was one of those books that I was hesitant about at first. But I can assure you that once I started, I was totally hooked! And I loved the book!

The Island of Sea Women a book club hot pick

The Island Of Sea Women

The Island of Sea Women is an absorbing novel spanning the lives of two women from the small Korean island of Jeju, in occupied Korea. Life on the island is hard and the entire existence of their families comes from the sea.

The novel begins at the end and weeds it’s way backward through the lives of Mi-ja and Young-sook.

As young girls, they are the best of friends who were from different backgrounds and closer than sisters. But, history and the fateful turns of life take them on separate and tragic paths.

This book is a testament to love, forgiveness, and a clear understanding of life from different points of view.

What is the true truth? Is life really a matter of perspective?

An excellent read!

The Source a hot pick for the Reading Corner series.

The Source

When I first heard about this book, The Source, I was instantly intrigued!

I had read The Law of Attraction and The Secret years ago. And, I intuitively knew that like-minded people and things do attract to each other. But now, here is a book that is written by a Neuroscientist and Senior Lecturer at MIT that supports the ideas of attraction.

Dr. Tara Swart

The author, Dr. Tara Swart is a psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and Senior Lecturer at MIT. In The Source, she guides us through the ideas of visualization and manifestation and methods of stopping our self-limiting behaviors.

As many, self-help books like The Secret and the Law of Attraction show, we have the power to change our destiny simply by reshaping our minds. Millions of people have used the ancient systems of manifestation and visualization without thought to the science behind them.

All the while, Dr. Swart shares her insights into neuroplasticity, magnetism, the differences in logical and emotional thinking. Next, on the physical level, she discusses the need for proper hydration, relaxation, and self-care.

When reading the book we look at the latest breakthroughs in neuroscience and behavioral psychology.

Ultimately, we get an inside look into Dr. Swart’s personal journey from a skeptic to a believer.

In conclusion, most of our desires in life such as love, health, happiness and wealth originate in our brains. Subsequently, these are all triggered by our choices and ability to think, act and feel. With this in mind, Dr. Swart and The Source provide the keys for unlocking our minds and freeing us to reach our higher potential.

  1. Great selections! I’m sure the source is really great because I do think our brains focus on and achieve the things that are top of mind. It makes perfect sense to me and not so woo woo like The Secret. Thanks for the tip.
