May Update, Coastal Cottage & Memorial Day Sales

Today, at Distinctly Southern Style, we are enjoying these last days of May and the long Memorial Day holiday. It’s been a busy spring, and this is a good time to catch up before the kick-off of the summer season. We’ve been setting up our coastal cottage in Boca and looking forward to traveling to Hawaii. And let’s take a look at the Memorial Day Sales happening now.

This spring, I have been anticipating the completion of what I call our coastal cottage in South Florida. We will have the advantage of splitting our time between North Florida and South Florida, and I will be close to the grandkids for extended periods.

One of the perks of being near family is spending time together and enjoying dinners out. On Saturday night, we celebrated a belated Mother’s Day at Principessa Ristorante at the Boca Raton.

Once again, I am wearing my linen dress from Anthropologie. It was featured on Instagram earlier this spring.

I look forward to sharing more sights in South Florida in the coming posts.

Coastal Cottage

Well, it is finally happening; our coastal cottage in Boca Raton is nearing completion. This project has been two years in the making. And we are happy with the results. Now, the fun starts with decorating in a Distinctly Southern Style.

I will share before-and-after photos in later posts. The finishing touches are being completed, but I want to share my search for items that make this a comfortable Coastal Cottage as we enjoy time with family and Boca Raton friends.

First purchases for our Coastal Cottage

We began moving in by collecting odds and ends from family storage units. Since we will continue to live between Gainesville and Boca Raton, I want to keep the Gainesville house intact. As a bonus, I get to enjoy decorating in South Florida.

One of my first purchases was three Avalon Rattan Swivel Bar & Counter Stools. I am so pleased with them that I just ordered a fourth during today’s Memorial Day Sale at Serena and Lily.

The second purchase is the Angelina Bed from Frontgate. I have been eyeing this bed for over two years. I love the fresh new look of the gold metal frame. Frontgate has a terrific Memorial Day Sale of up to 75% off and offers free shipping, including furniture. That’s an actual savings!

Odds and Ends

As you can see, we have the bare essentials to start our South Florida adventure. Being near the grandkids throughout the school year and enjoying their school and sporting events will be great. This is what being a Coastal Grandmother is all about.

Heading to Hawaii

It will be a quiet Memorial Day at home as we soon head to Hawaii. Last year, on our trip to Rome, I loved the Away Everywhere Bag and Away Carryon Flex. It was a given when I decided to replace my checked bag—the Away Medium Suitcase in Sorbet Orange. I think it will stand out in the luggage carousel! Our blue carry-ons and orange checked bags are great Florida Gator colors!

Memorial Day Sales

Sales are happening everywhere this weekend. So, if you’ve been eyeing something special, now is a great time to check it out.

As we observe this Memorial Day weekend, we should remember those who gave up their lives for our country and express our gratitude for all they have sacrificed.

    • I am blessed to have this opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds. In the end, family is everything to me and I cherish the time we get to spend with them. The boys are growing up so fast.
