September Has Arrived!

Welcome friends!

Come on up on the front porch and sit awhile and enjoy a few mid-week musings.

Let’s take a break from these last lingering days of summer and the anticipation of the coming fall season and have a nice little chat. A lot is happening this September in the South including hurricanes, books, and movies.

What’s Been Happening

September arrived with an early Labor Day weekend and a long, slow hurricane by the name of Dorian.

He wreaked havoc through the Bahamas and along the eastern coast making landfall in Virginia with effects felt all the way to coastal Canada.

Hurricane Season in South and on the Eastern Coastline.

Now here in the south, each year we have an unwelcome guest named, ” Hurricane Season“.

From June 1st to November 30th, we are aware of the possibility of a hurricane lurking out in the Atlantic and waiting to come ashore. And so, as we go about our daily lives and enjoying the sunshine and beaches we always have a watchful eye on the sky. But, more importantly, and we have an ear to the weather channel for the latest updates on developing storms and depressions that may become a hurricane.

After weathering many a tropical storm and hurricane, come September we are mindful of the need to update our preparedness lists and supplies.

I am providing the link to the National Hurricane Center. It will supply you with links for all the official information that you need to know. Please, remember, we can never be too prepared. Safety is all-important.

After the storm, we all like to help those in need. The Red Cross is accepting donations online for those in the path of Dorian’s destruction.

What’s Up Now

By: Laine Moriarty

Currently, I’m in the middle of reading Laine Moriarty’s latest book Nine Perfect Strangers. It is this month’s choice for my September book club meeting. And, I am loving it!

If you were intrigued by the characters in Big Little Lies, well, get set to fall in love all over again. It’s a real page-turner.

Ten days, nine strangers at a remote health resort and the possibility of changing their lives forever. You can only imagine … nine at a time … I’m not going to tell you more…

I going to finish reading as soon as I finish this post!

What’s Next

I have been waiting patiently for September to arrive and the release of Downton Abbey the Movie. In case you haven’t been following along. The original Downton Abbey is a PBS Masterpiece series that ran six seasons from 2011. And now, we get to enjoy the continuing saga of the Crawley family and the staff that serves them one more time on the big screen.

Opening day is September 20th here in the States. Are you planning on going to the movies this month too?

That’s All For Now

The business of life is “The Acquisition” of memories. – Carson, Downton Abbey

Well, that’s what’s on my mind today, my mid-week musings. I hope that you found today’s post helpful and interesting.

Until the next time, have a wonderful week!

  1. I cannot wait to see Downton Abbey! My mother insists we see it the night it opens – I know it will be crowded but our whole family loves DA!
As a fellow Floridian I am praying for a super quite remainder of hurricane season- Dorian about wore me out!

    • Kellyann,
You are going to have an amazing time, seeing DA on opening night!
I’m praying that Dorian was the end of this hurricane season.

  2. Hi Rosemary, I felt like I was having a cup of coffee with you when I was reading this. I like your warm writing style. I used to watch Upstairs/Downstairs as a girl because my mom was from England and enjoyed that show. I haven’t watched Downtown Abbey, but my friends are saying I need to check out the movie. Take care!

    • I am so happy that you enjoyed this post, Peta. If you liked Upstairs/Downstairs you will love Downton Abbey! I have friends who didn’t watch the series as it played out through the years. And once they started watching on the streaming networks they were absolutely hooked. Downright binge watching!
      Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Oh Rosemary! What a delightful post! I love the easy feel of sitting on the porch and chatting with you! That Dorian sure was a scary storm, I don’t even think of things like a list for being prepared because it is not a part of our reality in Michigan. For us, boots, gloves and a snow shovel and salt for icy sidewalks is “being prepared” for a storm. Isn’t it fascinating how different the weather can be in one country? Your book sounds like a page turner! And I hope to see Downton Abbey too! Such a lovely post!

    • Yes Amy, it is amazing how different parts of the world has so many different weather challenges.
We are thankful of fact that we do get warnings of the approaching storms. My heart always aches when I hear of the tornados that pop-up with warning!
I’m looking for to your next post on “Your Favorite Chapter”.

      Have a great weekend!

  4. Hurricane’s are so scary and more so these days. My thoughts go out to all those in the paths.

We are in full on fall weather here and I am enjoying it so much.

    Have a great week!
    Peace!

    • Cheryl,
I would love some mountain-fall weather about now. There is nothing more beautiful than fall foliage in the mountains. My family is from West Virginia and the mountains have a special place in my heart!

      Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. Rosemary,

September is still a summer month for me because it’s still so hot in the south.
I am so happy that Dorian didn’t hit Florida or the southern coast but sad over the devastation in the Bahamas.
I am looking forward to seeing Downtown Abbey too!

    Hugs,
    Robin

    • Robin,

The devastation in the Bahamas is unimaginable. Prayers for a fast recovery for all affected. It is really a touch situation when dealing with islands, transportation of services and products, etc. A real-world challenge.

Thanks for stopping in for a read!

    • Hi Ann,
I am sure that you are happy with the coming of springtime. I was in South Africa and Namibia in July and it was winter. The change of climate takes a moment to get used to!

Everyone is all a buzz about Downton Abbey. I read good reviews from readers outside the States.

      Have a terrific week!

      Rosemary
