5 Ways To Experience The Joy Of Giving This Holiday Season!
The Joy of Giving
“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
― Mother Theresa
Once again we have arrived at the Holiday Season and gift-giving is foremost on our minds.
What to give? Will they like what I give? Is my gift special enough?
All those nagging thoughts creep into the corners of our minds. Alas, no need to give up the joy of giving to needless worry. Remember it is the desire to express our love through a special gift that has us all in a tizzy!
Let’s tale a step back and remind ourselves to enjoy the process. The joy of giving is the spirit of the holiday season. Let’s release the pressure and enjoy giving for giving’s sake.
Release The Stress
Create a Budget for Your Holiday Spending
Make a list of all your holiday expenses. Be sure to include parties you plan to attend, travel expenses, grocery shopping, decorations, gifts you plan to give.
Once you’ve got a plan in place you are ready to shop for a perfect gift that fits your budget. Thus, you are going to be happy with your gift-giving choices. And not robbing yourself of the joy of giving with the dread of January bills.
Start Now – Don’t Wait
Waiting until the last minute is not a great idea! At the last minute, you start to become panicky, you step out of your budget just so you have a gift, and many times you are just settling without thought of what that special person really likes or wants.
It’s hard to feel joy about giving when you are stressed!
Don’t Try To Do It All At Once
Take your time and shop for one person at a time. Set an allotted time. Maybe one hour in the evening and devote all your attention to that one person. Ask yourself what would they like, what are their interests, what is new this year that they would like but don’t even know about? Maybe research your list for them online. You just may be able to order what you’ve decided on from the comfort of your sofa.
Now you are feeling the joy of giving and keeping it simple at the same time!
Think Outside the Box
Everyone wants to give and receive the perfect gift. But sometimes that perfect gift is not in the stores. This kind of gift-giving requires thinking specifically about the person we are gifting. Asking ourselves questions about their interests and likes.
Questions like what do 12-year-old boys want? Hint: not clothes! Gift cards for sure! But what else? I’m thinking.
One year I bought my husband a one week course at a racing school. He was thrilled, never thought of taking the class himself, and met one of his closest friends there.
Remember The Reason For The Season
The reason for the season is to show our love and concern for one another. So, don’t stress yourself out trying to find the right gift. Give from the heart first and you will have found the perfect gift!

Well said Rosemary! Remembering the reason for the season is hard when we are bombarded with sales and must have gifts! These are great tips and I love the quote from Mother Theresa!

Kellyann,
Some years are easier than others. And much has to do with different stages of life. As for myself, I am trying to find gifts 🎁 that I know the receiver truly will enjoy.

Love this message. I agree wholeheartedly! We need to think about giving, sometimes a gift of time or an experience will provide memories that mean a lot!
I don’t get stressed about it, as that isn’t what it is supposed to be about! I love giving presents too!
Have a wonderful week Rosemary!

So true, it’s hard to remember the real reason for Christmas sometimes.
Jess,
I love giving gifts too! I have slipped into the worry of gift-giving in the past. But now I am reminding myself to take the season one day and one gift at a time.
Rosemary
Jacqui,
We all often slip and forget. But then we do remember and all is well. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Such a great post and message, Rosemary! We have limited our gift giving this year to just our children and it will be minimal. I am excited to take my kids to ring the kettle bell for the Salvation Army at the mall this week. It is these acts of helping that are so much more important for me. Thanks for linking up. May your holiday be filled with many blessings!

These are good tips! I like to get all my shopping done before December so that I can be sure to take time to pick out the perfect gifts for people, and be thoughtful instead of rushing at the last minute 🙂 All the gifts are wrapped and under the tree now 🙂
Thanks for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! A new link up is live on my blog now, I’d love you to join again 🙂
Hope that you had a great weekend 🙂 We went to the movies and another Christmas party.
Rosemary,
I love your holiday gift-giving tips!
I am just starting to shop for Christmas and slowing down to enjoy this Christmas season!
I agree with you about giving from the heart. Sometimes the smallest gift given from the heart is the biggest one under the tree!
Merry Christmas!
Robin
These are great tips! I’m not going crazy this year, just buying for immediate family and a couple of Isobel’s friends. Simply relaxing and having a fun time together is enough for me 🙂 Thanks for linking up!
