Why Kindness Matters – Ageless Style

Hello, and welcome to the February edition of “Ageless Style.” What a busy month February is, with so many celebrations and holidays. Since we are just coming off the Valentine’s Day celebration and the Random Act of Kindness Day is February 17th, Jodie suggested we discuss kindness. What a brilliant idea! With love lingering in the air, this is the perfect time to stop and think about Why Kindness Matters!

A poster stating, "You will never regret being kind."

Each act of kindness opens the door for more actions and feelings of compassion. And the bonus of our kind acts is that we begin to feel good about our lives and ourselves.

Kindness Matters For Many Reasons

  1. Helping others
  2. Acts of kindness make us feel good about ourselves and our lives.
  3. Just do it.

Helping Others With Acts Of Kindness

When we help one another, we are also helping ourselves. The more we give positively, the more our lives are open and expand. By showing kindness, we are connecting with others on a spiritual level as well as physical.

It is easy to underestimate the value of a kind word to a stranger or a friend. So often, we are wrapped in our world of thought and deeds and overlook what is happening around us. But, yes, that person standing right before us may need our kindness. By saying a kind word, a bit of attention, a thoughtful gesture, or a smile, we can make a massive difference in that person’s day or life.

Acts of kindness make us feel good about ourselves and our lives.

Acts of kindness certainly make us feel good about ourselves. The more we become aware and practice becoming kind, the better our outlook on life. But here’s the secret, we must also be kind to ourselves!

Yes, you read that right!

Be kind to yourself; you will want to be kind to others.

We are all human, meaning that no one is perfect. So let’s accept our imperfections with love and kindness. Save time and energy by not fretting about things that could be better. Treat yourself like a best friend. Congratulate yourself for being a kind and caring person. Soon you will be practicing kindness regularly and living an extraordinary life.

Kindness Matters – Do It!

So here we are at the perfect starting point to begin practicing Random Acts Of Kindness. Now, let’s do it!

First, we can think about what matters to someone near us. How about making that phone call you have been putting off? Or paying a visit to an elderly neighbor, smiling at the stressed cashier, or bringing a coffee to a co-worker. There are opportunities at every turn of the day to extend acts of kindness to those around us.

Kindness matters because it connects us with people and inspires us to be better people. Which is a key component to creating a happier and better world for us all.

  1. Mireille,

I first step in any endeavor is recognizing the need to start. I think that kindness is a habit that will grow with practice.

    • Being kind to ourselves makes it easy for kindness to become a habit. And once it becomes a habit it is so easy to pass it on and pay it forward.

    • It can cost us nothing but a few moments of our time. But it can mean the world to someone. And that is a wonderful thing.

  2. Every day we should be practicing a selfless act of kindness. There has been so much sadness lately on the news with all the shootings.
A simple smile means everything to another person.
    Smiling at you my friend!

  3. I’m a huge proponent of kindness and love…at least in theory. I just need to practice it more in real life, haha.
That’s why I joined the FB group Forever Fierce: Midlife Matters and am now an admin of the group. We call ourselves the tribe with the kind vibe.

    • Being aware and making the effort to be kind is key. The more we aware of the kind reaction the sooner it becomes a habit. And habits create our lives.

    • I am so happy that you enjoyed today’s topic of kindness. It is such an important topic. And it really does start with being kind to ourselves.

  4. Rosemary,

I couldn’t agree more with everything you stated. I took an on line class at Yale on (believe it or not) Happiness. Research suggests that random acts of kindness have a huge impact on a person’s happiness.

    • I totally believe that acts and thoughts of kindness make us much happier. Just a simple smile can work wonders.

  5. What a precious post. When I was still working, one of our fifth grade teachers taught about random acts of kindness every year and had his class do something kind for some of the other faculty members. I was grateful to be on the receiving end of some of their kind gestures.

    • Nancy,

I feel your kind heart often. Manners of speech are habits. And once we’re aware, it’s much easier to be kind.❤️

    • It feels wonderful to be the recipient of a kind act. All the more reason to practice giving kind gestures frequently .🥰

  6. I honestly have to say that we Dutch are very blunt. I try to be kind, but sometimes my sarcasme gets the overhand. Also depends on my mood of course.

  7. What a beautiful blog post and important message to share as well. I felt inspired by reading this thank you for sharing, and for the reminder and kindness does make a difference.
