How To Use Intermittent Fasting To Refresh Your Life

Intermittent Fasting

The LEAN Program

Okay, the time is now to get back to basics and take control of my life and my body! We have crossed the threshold of one full year since we became aware of COVID 19 last March and our world turned its self upside down. And the good news is that we have a vaccine. We are moving about a bit more freely and looking at our world with a much more positive outlook. I am also ready to get back to basics with my health and take better care of my body. Exactly how am I planning on doing this, you ask? I am back on the intermittent fasting program of LEAN with Amanda Nighbert! I have been working with Amanda and the LEAN program since March of 2018, and I am down a total of 12 pounds. It has become a real lifestyle change for me. I have been sharing my journey with you all along the way. Here is a post is from 2019.

Once I began on my better health journey over three years ago, I began trying to educate myself and to bring the nutrition philosophy of food is medicine into my life. I am trying to choose foods that are nutrient-rich and will have a positive impact on both my life and health. And as I make these discoveries, I want to share what is working and not working for me.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

According to Wikipedia intermittent fasting is the scheduling of meals that cycle between fasting and non-fasting periods of time throughout the day or week. It has similar effects on the body to a calorie-restricted diet and is used to reduce the risk of diet-related diseases such as metabolic syndrome. It is being studied as to the effects on obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and inflammation.

Why Repeat The LEAN Program?

Well, there are so many weight loss and health tips in our faces every day. Just open your computer or phone, and there’s the latest miracle solution to your weight and health issues. It gets so confusing, and I find myself forgetting what I do know! There is no doubting that it is hard and confusing to stay on course with a healthy lifestyle.

As you know, I have been doing the program for several years, and I like to do at least a one-month refresher in the spring. Fortunately, I do have intermittent fasting as part of my lifestyle. Plus, I enjoy the information, the recipes, and the encouragement that Amanda offers daily.

But most importantly this cycle, I need to focus more on the exercise. I will admit that I was always putting the most of my focus on the food. Exercise is so important! It is true that as we age, each year, we lose muscle mass at an alarming rate. And will the gyms closed this past year, I can notice my waist is thicker, and my arms and thighs softening while my weight is less.

And being healthy is key to the LEAN PROGRAM with Amanda. Because learning to choose the right foods, eating at the optimal times during the day, fasting, balancing your macros, and exercising is all part of the program.

  1. You look fabulous, Rosemary! My hubby loves intermittent fasting. I go back and forth with it. I actually havea post in the works about it. So glad it’s worked for you. The program sounds very cool, too!

    • Thanks, Gwen!

Having a program with guided support works well for me, especially when I am just getting started. I like the accountability aspect of the LEAN program.

  2. You look wonderful good job. Loved your blog post on intermittent fasting. We’ve been doing the same thing. One year of indulging was a bit much.

    • Hi Safurat,

Now is the time for me to think about getting back on track. April is a month of Easter and birthdays at our house. But, I know I can never let myself slip backward for too long, or I will be in big trouble.

    • Kathrine,

As you can see in the post, I have been doing intermittent fasting for a few years. It has made a change for me in the long haul.
One of my issues is evening snacking and carbs for breakfast. Those are gone because of the time frame restrictions.

  5. Great post – I love reading about other women’s eating regimes and seeing what I can take for my own. You’re a great example of intermittent fasting! Thanks for sharing at #WowOnWednesday.

  6. You look fantastic, Rosemary! I sort of accidentally began intermittent fasting sometime in the early fall. Due to stress and anxiety, I was unable to eat much of anything and would go straight through the morning hours with no desire for food. Very quickly, my body settled into an intermittent fasting pattern that lasted way past the easing of the anxiety. I have found that it has helped me to lose weight (20 pounds since the fall) and maintain the weight loss. I generally only eat between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and that greatly effects how much I consume in a day! Thanks for sharing the program that has been effective for you!

  7. I am have been doing intermittent fasting by accident.
I never eat breakfast and go straight to lunch!
I always wondered why I never gained weight.
I think sticking to 2 meals a day works for me.

    • Hi Robin,

Breakfast just means Break the Fast and the longer we hold the fast, we will burn stored fuel (fat).
